The Responsibility of Prayer

13 Nov, 2008

I am starting to get regular input from people reading my blog, with stories they are coming across. I’ve shared a couple of them already. Today I received a couple of noteworthy pieces, so I will include them all at the end of my post.

It feels a bit like we are in the eye of a hurricane until inauguration day. The calm before the storm. I have been checking in on the Jerusalem Post, and Israel is clearly on heightened alert, and preparing for the worst. We are living in a unique time, with unique opportunities to watch prophecy unfold. And yet we watch with heavy hearts, as men turn hardened hearts toward the God who created them and usher in a time of ungodliness that the creator Himself will have to step in and stop.

This is a time to commit to a daily time of prayer, not only for family and friends, but for out nation and for the world at large. We have an immense privilege in prayer, that I’m not sure all of us understand. Many of us picture prayer as simply asking God for what we want. But the reality is that we have been entrusted the responsibility to pray; as prayer is the tool, ordained by God, which invites and ushers in His divine intervention. God will not interfere unless He is asked. So my heart cry today is that all of us commit to daily, fervent prayer for our nation, for Israel, and for our world. For the souls of the lost, who are bound and blinded by deception. We must take this on as a divine responsibility. We all feel that we are so small. We think; “what difference does my small voice really make?” Do not let yourselves be deceived; your prayers have power! And our united prayers have more power yet! Let’s greet every beautiful day, such as today, with a thankful heart for all that we have been given; starting with the privilege of living in America. And let’s face the future with a sense of responsibility to invite God’s will into our troubled world!

Some tidbits from a local Kansas paper; “The Hutchinson News”:

“Obama Aides are deciding how they will run their 2012 re-election plan”. Just in case you want to “get on board” and chat with the [dear leader] you can go to www.gov.change, designed for anyone one who wants to post a message of congratulations or offer suggestions [to dear leader],or apply for gov. job etc. “People are are invited to submit their names and email address’s, with the goal of creating a new list for the president-elect to tap when he wants to communicate directly”. [Yeah, like I want on that list]

Another headline piece: [ IRAN TESTS MISSILE ABLE TO HIT EUROPE] NAJAR said ” the missile was a defensive weapon and not a response to a threat against Iran”. He further stated ” Israel has recently threatened to take military action against Iran to stop Tehran from developing a nuclear bomb”.

And this is an excerpt from WorldNetDaily:

Ex-Hitler youth’s warning to America
‘Every day brings this nation closer to Nazi-style totalitarian abyss’

WASHINGTON – Because it has abandoned moral absolutes and its historic Christian faith, the U.S. is moving closer to a Nazi-style totalitarianism, warns a former German member of the Hitler Youth in a new book.
“Every day brings this nation closer to a Nazi-style totalitarian abyss,” writes Hilmar von Campe, now a U.S. citizen, and author of “Defeating the Totalitarian Lie: A Former Hitler Youth Warns America.”
Von Campe has founded the national Institute for Truth and Freedom to fight for a return to constitutional government in the U.S. – a key, he believes, to keeping America free.
“I lived the Nazi nightmare, and, as the old saying goes, ‘A man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument,’” writes von Campe. “Everything I write is based on my personal experience in Nazi Germany. There is nothing theoretical about my description of what happens when a nation throws God out of government and society, and Christians become religious bystanders. I don’t want to see a repetition. The role of God in human society is the decisive issue for this generation. My writing is part of my life of restitution for the crimes of a godless government, of the evil of which I was a part.”
Von Campe grew up under the Nazis, served in the Hitler Youth and fought against the Red Army in the Yugoslavian theater as a tank gunner in the German army. He was captured at the end of the war and escaped five months later from a prisoner of war camp in Communist Yugoslavia.
“It took me a long time to understand and define the nature of National Socialism,” says von Campe. “And, unfortunately, their philosophy continues to flourish under different labels remaining a menace to America and free human society.”
He writes: “The most painful part of defining National Socialism was to recognize my own moral responsibility for the Nazi disaster and their crimes against humanity. It boiled down to accepting the truth that ‘as I am, so is my nation,’ and realizing that if every German was like me, it was no wonder that the nation became a cesspool of gangsters. This realization is as valid today for any person in any nation as it was then, and it is true for America and every American now.”
Von Campe’s message is that political freedom and democratic rules alone are not sufficient to govern humanity justly.
“Democratic procedures can be subverted and dishonest politicians are like sand in the gearbox, abundant, everywhere and destructive,” he writes. “What I see in America today is people painting their cabins while the ship goes down. Today in America we are witnessing a repeat performance of the tragedy of 1933 when an entire nation let itself be led like a lamb to the Socialist slaughterhouse. This time, the end of freedom is inevitable unless America rises to her mission and destiny.”
Von Campe says he sees spiritual parallels among Americans and his childhood Germany.
“The silence
from our pulpits regarding the moral collapse of American society from within is not very different from the silence that echoed from the pulpits in Germany toward Nazi policies,” he explains. “Our family lived through the Nazi years in Germany, an experience typical of millions of Europeans regardless of what side they were on. We paid a high price for the moral perversions of a German government, which excluded God and His Commandments from their policies. America must not continue following the same path to destruction, but instead heed the lessons of history and the warning I am giving.”
Specifically, von Campe warns Americans their political leaders are on the wrong footing, “denying our cultural and traditional roots based on our unique Constitution and Christian orientation as a nation. Christians don’t understand their mission.”

Another very good commentary which is well worth the read:

It’s Not Over Til The Fat Lady Sings! (or finds her birth certificate)

09 Nov, 2008

Hey there all you desperately discouraged right wingers! From the looks of this little morsel that I just ran across, we may not yet have seen the last hurrah! It seems that President Elect Obama has been ordered by the Supreme Court to submit an authentic birth certificate to them on December 1. Hmmm… I wonder how they’re going to weasel themselves out of this one, since you know as well as I do that they’ll try. Ought to be interesting at any rate.

I also read that Israel may possibly launch a preemptive strike against Iran on December 8th. That should get the ball rolling right along, as Russia will not side with America against Iran as long as we continue with our stand condemning Russia’s actions against Georgia. China and India are all on the same page with Russia…. Hmmm… what’s all that sound like?… I saw that in JTA, Israeli news.

Whatever does come out of it all. Let’s not lose heart. I think that we sometimes forget about heaven being at the end of the road, and how the writers of the New Testament looked forward to the day of Christ’s return with great joy! So, let’s get that joy up everyone! The Word tells us that it (the joy of the Lord) is our STRENGTH! Well, I’ll stop short of writing out a Bible Study for you here, and just have you read about this birth certificate situation;

America The Beautiful

At this point, Supreme Court Justice David Souter‚s Clerk informed Philip J. Berg, the lawyer who brought the case against Obama, that his petition for an injunction to stay the November 4th election was denied, but the Clerk also required the defendants to respond to the Writ of Certiorari (which requires the concurrence of four Justices) by December 1. At that time, Mr. Obama must present to the Court an authentic birth certificate, after which Mr. Berg will respond.

If Obama fails to do that, it is sure to inspire the skepticism of the Justices, who are unaccustomed to being defied. They will have to decide what to do about a president-elect who refuses to prove his natural-born citizenship.

„I can see a unanimous Court (en banc) decertifying the election if Obama refuses to produce his birth certificate,‰ says Raymond S. Kraft, an attorney and writer. „They cannot do otherwise without abandoning all credibility as guardians of the Constitution. Even the most liberal justices, however loathe they may to do this, still consider themselves guardians of the Constitution. The Court is very jealous of its power – even over presidents, even over presidents-elect.‰

Also remember that on December 13, the Electoral College meets to casts its votes. If it has been determined that Mr. Obama is an illegal alien and therefore ineligible to become President of the United States, the Electors will be duty-bound to honor the Constitution.

and…just as a little side note:

“An elected legislature can trample a man’s rights as easily as a king can.”

WHY THEY WANT OUR GUNS!!

God bless you, everyone!

In Response To The Obama Victory

05 Nov, 2008

As I pondered on what to write today, in the wake of yesterday’s discouraging election outcome, I weeded through my email and came across an update from Joel Rosenberg. I agree with him whole heartedly. While the election result was not our desired outcome, we know now what we are facing. The past few months have been emotionally draining on you, I’m sure as they were on me. This was God’s choice.

My personal belief is that this, combined with many other developments worldwide, strongly indicate that our Lord is ready to draw history to a close. We as Christians must respond in the way the Lord taught; we must pray for Obama. Not to do so will only serve to allow bitterness to pollute the peace and joy that God has available for us. And the Joy of the Lord is our strength. We need that strength. From one flesh and blood human being to another, I confess to you that this will not be an easy task for me, but I will do it because I know that He is immesureably wiser than me. Now, if we could see, truly see what waits for us after these difficult times, we would rejoice, as the writers of the scripture did when seeing it in their great visions. Wonderful times are coming! As has been said many times by many people; “I have read the end of the book; and we win!” But between now and then, there will be difficulty.

So let’s focus on each day before us, rise with a prayer, and determine to live life to its’ fullest and show the world the hope that we have, the nature of love, and the nature of God. Let’s not lose heart. Our true king is still on the throne that stands high above all thrones. Remember, He won the victory over darkness 2,000 years ago, when he conquered death for all of us. And remember that He did not leave us as orphans. He has said “… behold, I am with you, even to the end of the age”. I believe we are quickly stepping into a time when we will see His church grow stronger. ‘wilbur milktoast’ Christianity, with it’s Sunday piousness followed up by loveless living will soon be a thing of the past. I believe that we will soon be seeing a Christianity that we have longed for; Real believers with true hearts and pure motives. And beyond that, I cannot improve upon what Joel Rosenberg has written below:

EPICENTER REACTS TO OBAMA VICTORY
By Joel C. Rosenberg

(Washington, D.C., November 5, 2008) — Congratulations to Sen. Obama. His victory last night was an historic moment, further evidence of how far Americans have come in moving beyond the racial divisions of the past. This is good, and should not be underestimated.

It is now our solemn responsibility to pray faithfully and consistently for him, his wife, his family, and his advisors. We must pray for their safety, their wisdom, and their discernment. This is the right thing to do and honors the Lord. As the Apostle Paul teaches so clearly in I Timothy 2:1, “I urge that entreaties, prayers and petitions and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”

We must also pray faithfully for the safety of our nation, for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the advancement of freedom and security throughout the world, and particularly in the Middle East. I am very concerned about what the next year to 18 months may hold. Vice President-elect Biden warned us that the world will test this young new president. We must therefore pray for peace while we prepare for war.

I’m paying particular attention this morning to how people in the middle east are reacting to Sen. Obama’s victory. Leaders in Iran are thrilled since the likelihood of decisive U.S. action to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons program has just dropped dramatically. Leaders in Iraq, by contrast, are trying not to be worried given that the likelihood of rapid withdrawal of U.S. forces has just increased dramatically.

Palestinians seem to be thrilled, since they see Obama as pro-Palestinian and open to dividing Jerusalem and pressuring the Israelis to make further concessions of “land for peace.” Many Israelis feel quite unsettled this morning, concerned that they will be all alone in the Middle East as the U.S. begins to pack up and go home from Iraq. They are also concerned that Obama and his team do not appear to fully understand or appreciate the seriousness of the threat of Radical Islam. Sen. Obama told us during the campaign that Iran was a tiny country that did not pose much of a threat. Israelis are not convinced he will stand with them in a nuclear showdown with Tehran.

A senior political strategist in Israel emailed me last night with this thought: “The State of Israel is now facing the most unfriendly American administration ever….Israel’s will to live will be tested in ways that will not be pretty. Many of Obama’s foreign policy team and Middle East advisors see Israel as the obstacle to peace. And we can not count on Jewish supporters of Obama to have any standing in setting policy in this administration.” A new poll released yesterday also caught my attention: 46% of Israelis would have voted for McCain, while only 34% would have voted for Obama. That tells us something about the concern from Eilat to Haifa and from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem about losing a great friend of Israel and the Jewish people in President Bush to someone who has not indicated convincing support for Israel in the past.

I know many of you are very worried about the direction of our country. I certainly understand this sentiment, but as I wrote yesterday, let us not lose heart. The Lord knew who would win. He allowed it to happen. He has a plan. He has a purpose. And now He is calling us to serve Him faithfully – to do whatever He tells us to do, to go wherever He tells us to go, to say whatever He tells us to say. Now is the time to draw close to Christ, to advance His kingdom, and prepare for His return. He is, after all, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Now is certainly no time to forget, or to be discouraged.
